Some Black Lives Matter

What do all these phrases have in common?

  • Black Lives Matter
  • All Black Lives Matter
  • White Lives Matter
  • Blue Lives Matter
  • All Lives Matter
  • The Entirety of Humanity is Significant

If you said that these are all true, you are right. Any reasonable person would agree with you. No rational person would think otherwise.

But the world isn’t filled with rational people. If you use any of those phrases, except the first one, the people who support the Black Lives Matter organization will attack and try to silence you. They’re not interested in a dialog or free exchange of ideas. They won’t even listen to what you say.

You see, the BLM organization has declared that the slogan “Black Lives Matter” has a very specific context. And because of that context, if you use any of the other phrases, you’re a racist. What a ridiculous notion.

I don’t know about you but when someone tries to tell me that there are entire phrases in the English language that I’m not allowed to use, that’s when we’ve got a problem.

You might try to make the argument that the phrase “Black Lives Matter” implies that “All Black Lives Matter”. But, for that to be true, there would need to be some evidence to support it. After all, it’s unreasonable to expect someone to infer something that hasn’t been implied.

If the phrase “Black Lives Matter” actually implies that “All Black Lives Matter” then there would be, at the very least, equal outrage for the death of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner as there is for the death of Breonna Taylor. There are riots to protest the death of George Floyd but almost complete silence about the death of 3-year-old Mekhi James.

What about David Dorn? He was killed while protecting a friend’s property from the riots in St. Louis. Did his life matter? What about the thousands of black people killed by other black people in the United States each year? Or the black people dying by suicide or drug use? Do their lives matter?

When the poster child for your organization is a very bad person instead of, you know, an actual child, how can you be surprised by the conclusions people draw about your motives?

If you want us to make the leap that “Black Lives Matter” implies “All Black Lives Matter” then you need to act like it. A good place to start would be to publicly, and repeatedly, denounce violence of any kind against black people. Instead of faking outrage for the deaths of criminals, show some real outrage for the deaths of innocents.

What do these phrases have in common?

  • Black Lives Matter
  • Some Black Lives Matter

According to what the Black Lives Matter organization says and does, they’re exactly the same thing.
