I’m writing this on Wednesday, January 6th as I watch the counting of electoral votes.
The first thing I saw was Nanci Pelosi telling people that there could only be 22 members on the floor. The rest of the people needed to sit in the gallery. One person from Virginia politely asked what the procedure would be for them to make a parliamentary inquiry if they were seated in the gallery and not on the floor. Mike Pence told him debate wasn’t permitted in the joint session. The gentleman clarified that wasn’t debating, he was trying to understand the procedure. Again, Pence told him that his question constituted “debate”, which wasn’t permitted.
Now, it’s possible that Pence meant that calling a point of order would be considered “debate”, but it sure looked like he was politely telling the guy to sit down and shut up.
You can see for yourself here:
And it went downhill from there.
What I saw was a performance with three groups of actors. One group that believes election fraud occurred, and the votes shouldn’t be counted. Another group believes that the election was fair and the votes should be counted. The third group believes there likely was fraud, but just doesn’t give a shit, and also supports the counting of the votes.
The white hats have just objected to Arizona and the House and Senate has adjourned to their respective chambers to debate the objection.
But I’m not seeing a debate. What I’m seeing is a bunch of people who are reading speeches that they wrote days ago.
In fact, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) just referenced a quote by CISA claiming that “The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.” She seems to have either completely forgotten or completely ignored the massive successful hacking of our government’s computer network infrastructure just a couple weeks ago.
She is also ignoring, or is ignorant of the fact, that Christopher Krebs, former head of cybersecurity for the U.S. admitted in one of the state senate hearings (I can’t remember which one) that he was only talking about cyber security, not all types of election fraud. In his mind, there may have been fraud, but by God it was the most secure fraud in the history of the United States.
But, Senator Klobuchar read her little speech anyway because she had written it weeks ago and had already made up her mind about the issue. After all, there’s no point in letting a good preconceived notion go to waste. And when she got done, the next person in line got up and read their speech. Because they too had already made up their mind. And so on. And so forth.
A debate is supposed to be a free-flowing exchange of ideas. If at least one side isn’t willing to keep an open mind, then all it’s just a bunch of people reading at each other for two hours.
And read they did. One side says that we should ensure there was no election fraud so the American people can have faith in the election process. The other says that the only way to be certain that the American people have faith in the election process is to blindly ignore the enormous amount of evidence before their eyes. Only one side can be right.
The objectors are clearly in the minority. For their objection to succeed, they need to convince a fair number of people to agree with them. But, for that to happen, they need people to listen to them.
The people objecting to the objection already have the votes they need. To win, they don’t need to convince anyone of anything. Nor do they need to be convinced of anything. So, they didn’t listen.
And, everybody said what they had to say to rooms full of people who weren’t listening to anybody.
(I got sidetracked and am finishing this after big brouhaha outside)
You want to know why people outside got upset? It’s because it was suddenly very obvious that nobody was interested in entertaining the possibility that maybe, just maybe the mountain of evidence pointing to election fraud has merit. It’s because that they could see in video streamed real-time that this was just a show with an outcome predetermined before it even started.
There’s an acronym used by the military that is used as shorthand to mean a bad situation that keeps repeating itself. The acronym is “BOHICA” (bow-hee-ka) and it stands for Bend Over, Here It Comes Again.
Nearly 80 million Trump supporters have watched for weeks as evidence of fraud has continued to be uncovered. We’ve watched as politicians and the courts ignored actual freaking video evidence of election fraud. We’ve watched as they dismissed the testimony of tens of thousands of Americans who have sworn, under penalty of perjury, that they witnessed fraud.
And today it happened again.
Essentially, the House and Senate told every American to sit down and shut up.
So, I want you all to remember this day. This is the day when nearly every politician in Washington, both Democrat and Republican, said “BOHICA” to the people they’ve sworn to serve.
