The End of Satire

Let me tell you something. I’m really glad that my job isn’t writing satire.

Satire sites like The Onion and The Babylon Bee poke fun at current events by creating outlandish and absurd scenarios based on what’s really going on.  Sometimes the point is to entertain but oftentimes they’re trying to teach a lesson by using extreme examples of what could be.  Essentially, satirists make up crazy shit to help stop us from becoming equally as crazy.

The problem is that these days it’s extremely difficult to make up things that are crazier than what’s really already happening.

Take a look at some recent headlines:

  • Video Shows Fraudulent Ballots Pulled from Beneath Table and Counted Multiple Times
  • Biden Claims Genocide is the Cultural Norm in China
  • Hasbro Says “Mr. Potato Head” is Offensive.  Changes Name to “Potato Head”
  • Biden Signs 34 Executive Orders in His First Few Weeks in Office
  • Quaker Oats Rebrands Aunt Jemima in the Name of Cultural Awareness
  • School Principal Suspended for Teaching About Big Tech Censorship
  • Twitter Suspends President Trump’s Account
  • Coke Tells Employees to be “Less White”

As a satirist, how would you compete with that?  That’s some crazy shit.

Let’s see if we can come up with a few bits of satire on our own. Remember, satire needs to be more ridiculous than real life because we want to use exaggeration to make a point.  So, our ideas need to be so outlandish that they could never really happen.

Here we go (in no particular order):

  • Media ignores story of Hunter Biden’s laptop filled with child pornography.
  • Media silent on Biden’s ties to China.
  • Lifelong racist Joe Biden is now the poster child for “woke”.
  • Trump blamed for Obama’s policy of putting kids in cages.
  • “Trump’s” cages bad, Biden’s cages good.
  • The Left declares that everything is racist.
  • CDC: The COVID-19 virus can be spread by going to the beach, but not by rioting.
  • Trump Supporters inside the Capitol are “violent insurrectionists” but ANTIFA members standing beside them were just tourists in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Maricopa County Election Officials decide to simply ignore a subpoena.
  • Georgia Election officials claim election was fair.  Then they sue to stop independent audits from being performed.
  • Supreme Court says “Meh” to election fraud.
  • Candidate for U.S. Attorney General says that you’re not a domestic terrorist if you only riot at night.
  • Portland ANTIFA/BLM riots continue into their ninth month.
  • Health “experts” suggest tripling-up on masks.
  • U.S. Taxpayers fund the creation of a chart detailing the various levels of “whiteness”
  • ANTIFA/BLM create “autonomous zone” in Seattle.
  • Goodyear says “All Lives Matter” is racist and bans the phrase from its facilities.
  • Governors send COVID patients to nursing homes and kill thousands of people, then cover it up.
  • Democrats construct a huge fence around U.S. Capitol building.
  • Senile Biden campaigns from basement and somehow gets 81 million votes.
  • The U.S. government to fast-track COVID “vaccines” and inject tens/hundreds of millions of people with an experimental drug.
  • BLM says “All Black Lives Matter” is racist.
  • Viruses don’t travel vertically.
  • Black people who work hard and get ahead are accused of somehow having “white privilege”.
  • Hispanic man is accused of being a white supremist and is fired from his job.
  • Motorcyclist decapitated in accident dies of COVID.
  • Liberals claim there are an unlimited number of genders.
  • Biden Signs EO allowing boys to compete against girls in sports.
  • “Rachel” Levine.
  • Whitehouse press secretary promises to “circle back” but never does.  Press is OK with that.
  • Biden claims there was no vaccine prior to his inauguration.
  • Experimental COVID-19 vaccines provide no practical benefit.  Public fights to be first in line.

I could literally (and I use the term correctly) go on for pages and pages.  But I think I’ve given enough examples to make my point.  How do you make up something that is an exaggeration of real life when real life is already over the top?

I don’t think you can.

Unless things change, satire will be dead soon.  It will become a lost art.  Because it will be impossible to imagine anything that is more bananas than what’s really happening.
