In Defense of Israel’s Defense

If you haven’t been following what’s been going on in and around Israel, let me bring you up to speed.  The folks in Israel were minding their own business when Palestine fired over a thousand missiles in their direction.

[Pause: I know there is a lot of dispute about the West Bank and Gaza.  I’m trying to make a larger point without worrying about being geopolitically anal.  Don’t nitpick.]

Some of the missiles fell well short of their targets and killed some Palestinians.  Some missiles were shot down by Israel’s Iron Dome (missile defense system) and some missiles hit their targets. And some Israelis died.

Then, the Israelis fired back.  They killed some Palestinians and destroyed some buildings.  And they kept firing.

Then, for some unknown reason, Liberals got mad at Israel for not being more cooperative targets.

Next, the Israelis amassed troops at the border for a ground assault.  The Liberal media reported that a ground attack by Israel was imminent. So, Palestine moved a lot of their missile launchers and other equipment into defensible tunnels.  And Israel bombed the shit out of those tunnels.

Then, the Liberal media got upset because the Israelis misled them.  Israel implied they were going to attack on the ground but instead sent in their bombers.  How dare they!  Doesn’t Israel know that it’s not their job to mislead people?  That’s the job of the Liberal media.

As Palestine continues to fire rockets at Israel, they keep complaining about all of their own people who are getting killed because Israel is defending itself.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “this isn’t rocket science”.  Well, this is one of those rare times when it actually is rocket science.  The logic behind this is incredibly complicated.  So, allow me to break it down.  If you’re a Palestinian, or one of their supporters, you might want to pay attention.

If you don’t want innocent civilians to die when the Israelis blow up your missile launchers, then stop putting your missile launchers where the innocent civilians are (e.g. neighborhoods, hospitals and schools).

Now here’s the real important part, if you don’t want people to die, but also don’t want to move your crap, then don’t fire 1,000+ missiles at someone with the capability to fire back.

The Palestinians started this.  They fired more than 1,000 missiles at Israel.  The Liberal media is trying to portray Palestine as innocent victims. Let me tell you something. The story starts when someone pokes the bear, not when the bear pokes back.  Palestine attacked Israel, and Israel defended itself.  There’s a huge difference.

Expecting Israel to sit there and take it is unreasonable.  It’s true, more Palestinians have died than Israelis.  But, that was by accident rather than design.  You don’t launch 1,000 missiles (and counting) at someone unless your intent is to kill as many people as you can.

What is the magic number?  How successful would an unprovoked attack need to be before people stop pretending the aggressors are the victims?  Israel has the right to defend itself, and an obligation to protect its citizens from future “baseless” attacks.

The fact is, Israel isn’t the bad guy here.  Palestine is.  Every single death on both sides is because they drew first blood.  If you want to be mad at someone for this mess, don’t blame Israel.  Because Palestine poked them first. Israel is just poking back.
