The New, Inclusive Taliban

It doesn’t take a genius to see what Afghanistan is going to look like in a few weeks.  Because we’ve seen it before.  It’s going to look exactly like it did about 20 years ago.  Because, 20 years ago, the Taliban was in power.

Here we go again.

The Taliban will quickly enforce their own particular form of law, and behead anyone who dares question their authority.  Sadly, this will include thousands of American-friendly Afghanis that Joe Biden simply abandoned in his rush to “end the war”.  In a few weeks, they, and their families, will all be dead.  And Afghanistan will once again become a breeding ground for terrorists intent on doing us harm.

Or maybe not.

Maybe, just maybe, while the Taliban were hiding in their caves for the past twenty years, they spent the time focusing on personal growth.  Maybe they’ll rebuild Afghanistan, or whatever they’re calling it today, into a nation that celebrates inclusivity and diversity.

Maybe the Taliban will embrace free speech and differing opinions.  Maybe they’ll consider women to be something more than just property.  Maybe they’ll turn their terrorist training camp into a world-class gender transitioning facility.  Maybe they’ll emerge as a kindler, gentler Taliban.

Yeah.  Right.

If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

In a few days or weeks, you’re not going to be able to tell today’s Afghanistan from the Afghanistan of 20 years ago.  Except this time, the Taliban now has smart phones and the Internet, and have been emboldened because they just defeated “The Great Satan”.

We could have ended the war a long time ago.  While the Taliban were in their caves, perhaps becoming kinder and gentler bloodthirsty psychopaths, we should have dropped a couple of MOABs on their heads and leveled a couple of their mountains.

We ended World War II by showing an overwhelming display of force to a maniacally-devoted enemy.  It worked then, and it would have worked here too.  But instead of ending the war, the plan is to end the fighting.  And those two things aren’t the same.

If I were going to come up with a plan to withdraw/surrender from Afghanistan, it would look something like this:

Step 1: Remove civilians from danger
Step 2: Remove the military from danger

This is so obvious it should be everyone’s plan.  In fact, it’s hard to imagine anyone coming up with a different one.  First, you remove the people that need protecting.  Then, you remove the people who are protecting them.  It could not be simpler.

But that’s not what happened.

As I pointed out yesterday, Joe has problems with even the simplest of plans.  In this instance, he seems to have forgotten that Step 2 comes after Step 1.

So, now we have thousands of Americans hiding in fear because we didn’t evacuate them before we removed the people tasked with protecting them.  Thousands of troops are going back in harm’s way because Joe forgot how to count.  Except now the pilots have to dodge surface-to-air missiles because the Taliban are parked right outside the airport armed with Stingers that we left for them to play with.

This all could have been avoided if Joe had simply done Step 1 before Step 2.

Why didn’t Joe take the time to do things right?  It’s not like there was any reason to hurry.  I mean, it’s been 20 years.  What’s another month or two?

I’ll tell you why. The 20th anniversary of 9/11 is just a few weeks away.  Joe wanted to be able to say he had “ended the war” in Afghanistan before September 11th

Here’s the thing: Now that Joe has thrown open our border with Mexico, how long do you think it’s going to be before Taliban-trained terrorists mosey across the border and bring the fight to American soil?  Taliban 2.0 isn’t an upgrade to a kinder, gentler version of the original Taliban. And it isn’t going to be long before they bring the fight to us.

Because Joe didn’t “end the war”, he just moved it.
