Every week or so, my wife will tell me about an article she’s read or a video she’s seen that completely boggles my mind. It’s not the topic that surprises me, because we see ridiculous things happening every day. What astounds me is that anyone could possibly believe that whatever ridiculous thing just happened is a good idea.
Those of you who follow me know I’ve been running a little experiment for the past couple of months. Yes, I’m going to talk about dog poop again. But only for a little while.
In less than two months, I’ve picked up 151 bags of dog poop that people have been leaving around my neighborhood.
I’ve spent a bunch of time pondering dog poop over the last couple of months. Doing some guess work based on the brand of bags, amount of poop inside and where the bags were found, I’d say that there are about a half dozen people who routinely discard their plastic-wrapped dog crap.
To me, what’s interesting is the number of people who think this is a good idea. Leaving hermetically sealed dog shit for someone else to pick up is such a ridiculously stupid thing to do that I don’t understand how even a single person could believe doing so is acceptable.
A Scientific, Wild-Assed Guess
Assuming I live in an average neighborhood in an average city, by extrapolation, it’s not unreasonable to believe that there are hundreds of thousands of people living in this country who routinely do the same thing.
The fact that even one person does this is hard to believe. Even one person is too many. Considering that there could be several hundred thousand people doing it is simply amazing. And what’s even more amazing is that other people will undoubtedly be cheering him or her on.
I think it’s safe to say that there are people out there who might not even own a pet but, will celebrate someone who discards bags of dog poop as being “courageous” for being their “authentic self”.
It’s sad, really, that’s the kind of world we live in. A world where you could think of the most ridiculous thing imaginable, and someone will probably have done it.
Unfortunately, there are lots of other things that fall into the same category.
Oh Say Did You?
Take this “Black National Anthem” thing. How can anyone believe that it’s OK to have two national anthems?
OK. I’ll admit that The Star-Spangled Banner is really hard to sing. I mean, you’d have to be Whitney Houston to actually get it right. And, honestly, since the tune was “appropriated” from an old English drinking song, maybe we could use something with a better pedigree.
You know, something like “God Bless America”.
I’d be 100% on board if someone proposed that we ditch the Star-Spangled Banner and replace it with “God Bless America”.
Except you and I know that would never happen. Because just having the word “God” in the title would be enough to cause liberals to have a conniption.
The idea of a black national anthem is so ridiculously stupid, and racist I might add, that you’d think it would be impossible to find even a single person that supports it. And yet, apparently, a lot of people do. Granted, I don’t know anyone who thinks it’s a good idea. But there must be at least one person, or the NFL wouldn’t have had it performed before the Super Bowl.
Well, I guess that’s not technically true. The NFL, being a for-profit business, isn’t really interested in changing the world. The NFL is interested in profits. The ONLY reason they’d play a “Black National Anthem” at all is if they think it’s going to make them more money. Nobody at the NFL has to believe that segregation is a good thing. They just have to believe that they can exploit it for profit.
But wait. There’s more.
Handi-Capable
I know people who are disabled but don’t look at themselves as disabled. It’s just not how they see themselves. Some consider themself to be “differently-abled”, but don’t you dare call them “disabled” or “handicapped”.
What if I told you that this year’s Boston Marathon was going to allow wheelchair racers to participate in the non-wheelchair category, as long as they identify as “not disabled”? Crazy, right?
Now, it’s not true. But admit it, for a brief moment you thought it was. Because you’ve seen even more ridiculous things that have been true.
Do you think there is even a single person who thinks that this would be a good idea? I’d bet there isn’t.
But what if it wasn’t one of the better wheelchair racers? What if we just let the wheelchair racer who finished last year’s race in…I don’t know…say 27th place? What if we let him race in the men’s division?
Do you know what would happen?
He would take first place. We could even let the 6th place finisher in the women’s wheelchair division compete and she’d also beat some of the most elite male distance runners in the world.
Aren’t There Rules Against This Sort of Thing?
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that this could never happen because there are rules against it. Well, there are rules about men competing against women in sports too. But that doesn’t seem to make any difference.
Like I said, it is unlikely that even a single person would agree that this is something that should happen. Just like there shouldn’t be even a single person who believes that men should be allowed to compete in women’s sports. But for some inconceivable reason, there are people who support this ridiculously stupid idea.
Do you know why nobody is bitching about women competing in men’s sports? It’s because, physically, men have an advantage over women. Everybody knows it. So, nobody is concerned that a woman might beat elite male athletes. Hell, nobody is even concerned about elite women athletes beating high school boy athletes.
A woman choosing to compete against men does so accepting that she’s going to be at a disadvantage. In fact, the only person at a disadvantage because of her actions is her.
But, when you allow a man to compete against women, because he’s decided to embrace his feminine side, the only person with an ADVANTAGE because of his actions is him.
Every woman who participates in every sport where she’s forced to compete against a man is at a physical disadvantage. And not by her choosing. But hey, at least the ugly dude with long hair isn’t getting his feelings hurt.
I could go on forever, but let’s just do one more.
On The Border
I have an idea. Let’s let anyone into the country that wants to walk across the border. If they can’t make it across because of the barbed wire, let’s just remove it for them. Then, let’s give them free health care, free cell phones, a monthly stipend, and an airplane ticket to wherever they want to go. Don’t worry about tracking anyone because they promised they’d come back for a hearing when it’s time for their court date.
Who in their right mind would think any of those things are good ideas? Every single person in the country should look at that “policy”, and I use the term loosely, and disagree with it.
When I heard that the Legislature is trying to reach a “compromise” on border security it made my blood boil. The Federal Government’s job is to protect our border and keep unauthorized people out. That’s what we’re paying them to do. The goal is simple and has no room for misunderstanding.
Nobody should be negotiating how many illegal aliens be allowed into the country per day. The number isn’t 5,000, or 1,000 or even 1. The number of illegal people who should be allowed to cross our border, any border, ever, is zero.
It would be bad enough if the Feds were just not doing their job. But they also don’t like it when someone else does their job for them.
Instead of keeping people out, the government is actually helping them get in by removing physical barriers to entry like Texas’ barbed wire and river floats.
It’s OK to the North
Think about this: Texas could build a fence on its border with Oklahoma and the Federal Government wouldn’t care. But when Texas tries to stop the flood of people who have been illegally entering our country for more than three years, Biden’s team files lawsuits to stop them.
When will this insanity end? When will so many people stop believing that men should competing against women, that open borders benefit America or that we need two national anthems?
It makes just as much sense to leave behind plastic-wrapped dog crap for someone else to pick up as it does to allow men in women’s locker rooms, to give illegal aliens free stuff, or to have a Black National anything.
Here’s the thing, we don’t know that there are lots of people who support any of these ridiculous ideas.
We’re being told that people agree with these things, but do you know even a single person who does? I’m not saying there aren’t ridiculously stupid people out there, but I refuse to believe that there are as many as we’re being told there are.
I don’t know how many people support any of those ideas. But I know there’s at least one. And, in my opinion, that’s one too many.
