CDC stands for “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”. The “and Prevention” part was added years after the “CDC” part which is why their acronym isn’t CDCP. I guess they already had the business cards and letterhead paper printed so changing to CDCP would have been a big expense.
Since “and Prevention” is right there in their name, one could reasonably conclude that preventing disease was a pretty big part of their job description. And since their name isn’t CDCPSJW (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Social Justice Warriors), once could reasonably conclude that caring one way or another about social justice isn’t part of their charter.
For decades, I just believed what the CDC said. Anyone who is responsible for more than a dozen Level-4 biocontainment labs must be trustworthy. Right?
That’s what I used to think. Now? Not so much.
The very instant that the CDC expressed their opinion that thousands of people crammed together, rioting, looting and protesting “racial injustice” was more important than “and Prevention”, they lost any faith I had in their organization.
In one swift press release, they wiped out decades of trust.
And that’s why whenever I see them update their guidelines to “and Prevention” COVID-19, I have to wonder if what we’re seeing is backed up by science or merely an opinion of someone.
In fact, I have to question everything they say because I can no longer be certain if they’re telling me the truth or working to further someone else’s political agenda.
When I see a newly-released set of guidelines, I don’t really know if those guidelines have anything to do with “and Prevention” anything.
Until they win back my trust, which could take years to do, I’m going to take everything they say with a healthy dose of skepticism.
So, I’m going to continue to do what I’ve been doing since the CDC became “woke” and not follow any of their COVID-19 recommendations.
I’m going to stand as close as I want to people (which, admittedly isn’t very close in any situation) and I’m not going to “elbow bump”.
I’m not going to wear a mask and I’m not going to douse myself in hand sanitizer every time I touch something. And there is no way in hell I’m going to allow myself to be injected with an experimental drug just because they said I should.
In other words, I’m going to trust that my immune system will successfully do what it has evolved to do and has been doing since homo sapiens became a thing.
I will also, however, continue to mock and ridicule people who blindly follow the guidelines of a government agency that is no longer trustworthy.
Don’t get me wrong. If you want to trust that the CDC is really focused on “and Prevention”, more power to you. If you want to give up your own liberties, I’m on board with that. Just because I think it’s ridiculous doesn’t mean you have to agree. If you’re naïve enough to allow the government to take away your rights, that’s OK. Just don’t be stupid enough to expect me to give up mine.
