A black, lesbian, transsexual walks into a bar. How’s that for being inclusive? I think I checked most of the boxes. But don’t worry, I’m going to use a different example. That way I can be reasonably certain I won’t offend anyone by using the wrong pronouns or because of some other woke bullshit.
So, for my example, I’m going to use someone who isn’t likely to set anyone off. Let’s use “Bob”. Bob is just a heterosexual white guy. That should be safe enough.
If you’re one of the lucky people who live in a state where the government hasn’t gone insane, congratulations. You’re not likely to experience the COVID-19 nonsense that we unlucky people are seeing. The rest of you should pay attention. Because if you haven’t already, you’re likely to see an equally-insane scenario where you live.
OK. Where was I. Oh yeah. Bob walks into a bar…
But it wasn’t the first time Bob walked into the bar. Bob spends most evenings working there as a bartender. And, I should mention that Bob hasn’t been vacksinated.
With the new, relaxed, rules going into effect in California on June 15th, masks will be no longer required for pretty much anywhere. Bars, churches and most other businesses can reopen at full capacity. Customers, parishioners and clients can come and go as they please without masks.
However, that’s not the case for employees of businesses. Employees of most businesses can go maskless, as long as every employee there is fully vacksinated. If even a single employee is unvacksinated, all employees must wear their masks. All the time.
The employees-must-wear-masks mandate is supposedly to protect Bob from getting sick while at work. After all, employees who have been vacksinated are still contagious, just maybe slightly less contagious than before they received their injection. So, Bob must be protected.
Because Bob hasn’t been vacksinated, every employee of the bar must wear a mask while Bob is working. However, none of the customers are required to do so. So, while Bob is behind the bar, he has to wear a mask, and so do all of his co-workers.
But, at the end of his shift, Bob can hang up his apron, walk around the bar, and take off his mask. And, since the single, unvacksinated, employee is now off duty, all the other employees of the bar can remove their masks too.
How could anyone not see how ridiculously silly this is? When Bob is pouring drinks, everyone has to pretend that he’s highly susceptible to becoming gravely ill, but only from exposure to the people he works with. However, just three feet away, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with dozens of other people – many of whom aren’t vacksinated, there’s no danger at all.
And this insanity isn’t limited to just bars. This could happen in nearly every other type of business.
During the day, Bob is an accountant. His employer is required by state law to check his vacksination status. Since Bob is unvacksinated, everyone in his office has to wear a mask. Bob’s medical records, including his vacksination status, is supposed to be a secret. So, nobody should know he’s the reason everyone has to be masked.
Here’s the problem with that: Anyone who has ever had a real job knows there are no secrets in a workplace. Before lunchtime, everyone in the building is going to know that Bob is to blame for them having to wear a mask.
And, since people are people, they’re not going to like it. So, Bob is going to be harassed, nagged and quite likely threatened to get vacksinated by one or more of his co-workers. Bob’s normally tranquil workplace will become a hostile, and potentially dangerous, place for him to be.
It will be dangerous, but not because of the virus.
How long do you think it’s going to be before we start seeing vacksinated employees going postal and targeting unvacksinated employees? I think it’s going to be sooner rather than later, if it hasn’t happened already. It won’t be long before a deranged, vacksinated employee brings a gun to work and shoots Bob for being “selfish”. The media will call it “gun violence” but that’s not really what it is. It will be blamed on the weapon, instead of the idiotic government rules that caused it to happen.
Bob doesn’t want to be protected. He doesn’t want anyone to wear a mask. He’s not in the least bit concerned about COVID-19. Unfortunately, the State of California thinks it knows what’s best for Bob and it doesn’t want him to work in an unsafe environment.
So, they’re going to protect him from catching a virus that most likely won’t even make him sick. And, at the same time, put him in real danger by making him a potential target of workplace violence.
